How STEM Yub Works

Find A Lab

Start by exploring our growing database of faculty members who are open to mentoring undergraduates. You can browse by research area, department, or keyword to match your interests. Each profile includes lab culture, current projects, mentorship philosophy, and what kinds of students they’re hoping to work with. This step is all about discovering research environments that are inclusive, supportive, and aligned with your passions.

2

Read Experiences

Before you reach out, take some time to read about what it’s actually like to be in a lab. Our student-submitted reflections and testimonials highlight real experiences — the good, the challenging, and the rewarding.
You’ll hear from peers who navigated research without prior connections, who overcame self-doubt, and who found belonging in the lab. Their stories are here to help you feel seen, supported, and prepared.

3

Connect With A Postdoc

Once you’ve found a lab and read through some shared experiences, your next step is to connect with a current postdoc (or other experienced researcher) in the lab. We provide contact info and conversation starters to help you feel more confident reaching out.

Postdocs can give you insider insights into the lab’s daily life, offer advice on how to approach the PI, and help you navigate your first steps as a new researcher.
